Danger in the Dark reworks Poison, created by celebrated South African theatre-makers David Kramer and Taliep Petersen, and originally produced by Renaye Kramer in the 1990s. Their creative partnership helped bring Cape stories, voices and music to South African and international stages. Set on the Cape Flats, the musical follows Pamela, who reunites with Juanita, a friend from her school days. Pamela soon discovers that Juanita is trapped in an abusive relationship with a dangerous drug lord.
Determined to help her friend escape, Pamela is drawn into threatening places and difficult situations. Despite the risks, she refuses to abandon Juanita and perseveres in the fight for her safety and survival.
Through this gripping story, the production confronts substance abuse, gender-based violence and criminality while highlighting loyalty, compassion and resilience.
Directed by Sonwa Sakuba, with Brandon Cassels as musical director and Mary-Jane Zimri as choreographer, the production gives Northlink’s emerging performers an opportunity to showcase their acting, music, movement and stagecraft skills on a professional stage. Tickets cost R180 and are available through Webtickets and at Pick n Pay stores.
