New head for Siemens Power Group in South Africa

Dion Govender has been appointed as managing director of the Power Group at Siemens Limited in South Africa with effect from the 1st July 2007.

An MBA graduate from Henley (UK), Govender is also a member of the board of directors of Siemens Tanzania, Siemens Botswana, Siemens Demag Delaval Turborep Limited and the South African Electrotechnical Export Council. He is also a member of the Institute of Directors.

In his new role, Govender takes responsibility for the Siemens Power business within South Africa, including both power generation and power transmission and distribution. His responsibility also extends to the SADC region, an area in which he has gained considerable experience since 1993, having helped establish the first Siemens subsidiary in Zambia.

Govender also serves on the executive committee of the Nepad Energy Working Group and is a vigorous proponent of growth through local and regional skills development and technology transfer. He is deeply committed to local black business development initiatives as well as skills development programmes within the power sector in the region.
