Blazer Fridays

The International Marketing Council (IMC), in order to leverage on the 2010 Fly the Flag Fridays successes, collaborated with the Department of Basic Education and, to mobilise public support for the Grade 12 learners preparing for their final exams. The Class of 2010 campaign was launched in August 2010 by Mrs Angie Motshekga MP and has since been receiving great media coverage.

Initiated under the Fly the Flag Fridays umbrella, the Class of 2010 project continues to encourage members of the public, parents, peers, corporate organizations, professional bodies and various institutions to support the Grade 12 learners by volunteering their time and skills to help learners succeed in their studies.

The launch of this initiative has since resulted in public awareness of the 100 Learning Centres nationwide established by Basic Education to assist Grade 12 learners catch-up with some of their lessons. The overwhelming response from the public included volunteering at the various study centres, community involvement and cooperation to declare "Study hours" at certain busy townships as well as the commendable efforts by South African businesses to assist with stationery drives and providing extra learning material all in an effort to ensure that 2010 does leave a meaningful legacy.

With less than 12 days before the Matric final exams commence, under the Fly the Flag Fridays umbrella we are declaring this Friday and every other Friday until exams are over Blazer Fridays. We are calling on South Africa to show their gees by accessorising for a good cause and wearing their old school blazers or tie as a symbolic gesture every Friday.
