Tourism Department launches domestic tourism exchange programme

The deputy tourism minister Elizabeth Thabethe unveiled the OR Tambo Youth Exchange Programme at the OR Tambo Cultural Precinct in Gauteng. The programme is a partnership between the Department of Tourism, the OR Tambo District Municipality, and the Ekurhuleni Metro.

The initiative aims to address the gaps identified in the Domestic Tourism Growth Strategy; which include seasonality and uneven geographic spread. The exchange programme allows two-hundred learners from the OR Tambo District Municipality to visit Gauteng attractions with the same number from Ekurhuleni visiting the birthplace of OR Tambo in the Mbizana Local Municipality in the Eastern Cape.
