Developing Economic Journalism in Africa
At the annual African Economics Editors' Conference held in Johannesburg recently a goal was set to have an online archive established as a free database for journalists all over Africa. The go-ahead has also been given to launch an African Centre of Economic Journalism at Rhodes University, the first of its kind in Africa, once adequate sponsorship has been found. Concern was also raised at the lack of significant female representation at the conference, and editors were encouraged to aggressively promote economic journalism among female reporters.
