Zim Supreme Court rules controversial media law unconstitutional
The Supreme Court in Zimbabwe has declared unconstitutional and struck out a section of media law that made it an offence for a journalist to publish falsehoods. Two journalists with The Daily News, Geoffrey Nyarota and Lloyd Mudiwa, challenged the constitutionality of the law after being accused of contravening it when they reported that pro-government militias had beheaded a woman in front of her children. The story was found to be fabricated by the dead woman's husband and the paper printed a retraction.
