Keeping the brand concrete in the band
Local jeweller Evert van Engelenhoven, of 43 Design, created a concrete wedding ring for PPC technical marketing manager Donovan Leach for his December 2011 wedding. It uses sterling silver, micro-concrete and well-graded sand. The silver was used to control shrinkage as well as to build-up the tensile forces. Leach, who met Engelenhoven at a previous workshop held for artists interested in submitting works for the group's annual Young Concrete Sculpture Awards, says he knows of only one other jeweller in Japan who uses concrete as a medium to produce jewellery.
