Clan names on beer cans are not disrespectful, rules ASA
Business Insider reports that the Advertising Standards Authority of South Africa (ASA) has determined the use of clan names on Castle Milk Stout beer cans not disrespectful.
The ruling comes after a consumer complaint was lodged to ASA by Yoliswa Matu. The complaint states that using 'sacred' African clan names to sell alcohol is disrespectful.
ASA agrees with Castle's idea of putting clan praises on cans to encourage South Africans to get back to their roots and embrace being African.
