Sanef condemns robberies at local KZN newspapers
The South African National Editors' Forum (Sanef) has condemned the recent spate of robberies at Igunundu Press's newspapers in KwaZulu-Natal. Five armed men broke in and stole all the computers, cameras and office equipment at the offices of Bayede News, ElaboHlanga and Ubukhozi.
In a statement, the editors' forum said that this not only impacts on media freedom but also has a negative impact on the marginalised communities who rely on the newspapers for perspectives carried in their own language. Sanef urged Saps (South African Police Service) to make every effort to find the culprits and recover the equipment as soon as possible.
