Press Club names rand as newsmaker of the year
The National Press Club in Pretoria has named the rand Newsmaker of the Year for 2002, for making such a strong comeback after being written off by many analysts at the end of 2001. By the end of last year the rand had recovered 40% against the US dollar and was among the world's best performing currencies. Justice and constitutional development minister Penuell Maduna received the award on Friday night on behalf of the government.
