UNOCI organises 2010 public screenings
In Daloa, football fans gathered in the TV hall of the university residential area of Meral to watch the matches and a similar crowd was reported in Alepe, where a UNOCI delegation spent three days last week within the framework of UNOCI Days. The people of Adzopé gathered at the Youth and Cultural Centre which served as venue for the projection of the matches on giant screens.
Informing the public
As was the case with the African Nations Cup in 2009 and 2010, the forum provided an opportunity for UNOCI to inform the public on the role of the UN Mission and United Nations agencies in Côte d'Ivoire, as well as deliver messages on the need to create a peaceful electoral environment while highlighting the values of sport such as fair play and respect for one another.
The population has taken a lively interest in these public screenings that would go on till 11 July and are part of UNOCI's "Sport for Peace" programme.
