South Africa's 5 Nations Wine Challenge takings

The results of the 2012 5 Nations Wine Challenge between Argentina, Australia, Chile, New Zealand and South Africa were announced in Sydney late last week and, though Australia was the Nation of Show, South Africa scored well with four trophies, 14 double golds and 7 golds.

KWV wines re-enforced its world-class ranking this weekend when it brought home a trophy and double gold medal - trophy for The Mentors Grenache Blanc 2011 and double gold for The Mentors Chardonnay 2011.

Fleur du Cap also triumphed with a Trophy for its 2010 Noble Late Harvest and Double Gold for the flagship red, Laszlo 2006.

Desiderius Pongrácz 2003 won a Double Gold adding to its Double Gold at the 2012 Veritas Awards and the trophy as the best bottle fermented sparkling wine at the 2012 International Wine and Spirits Challenge (IWSC) in London.

There were 540 wines adjudged by five judges, one from each country participating. There were 16 classes of wine and each judge was set the task of selecting seven or eight wines from a minimum of 14 classes.
