The Tourism Business Council of South Africa (TBCSA) CEO, Tshifhiwa Tshivhengwa has been awarded the Karl Twiggs Floating Trophy by Skal International South Africa, for his valuable contribution to the tourism industry.
Tshivhengwa was recognised for successfully spearheading the re-opening of the tourism industry in South Africa, following the extended national lockdown put in place by government in March 2020.

His efforts in lobbying government were instrumental in the phased re-opening of the sector. In receiving the news, Tshivhengwa said that he was humbled to be nominated and awarded this trophy.
"It is an honour to be recognised among my industry peers for the work that went into lobbying for the re-opening of the tourism industry in 2020. It was indeed a collective effort that helped us achieve this incredible feat. I wish to thank the board of TBCSA and its associated members as well as the industry at large. Our collective efforts made this happen," says Tshivhengwa.
The award is bestowed by Skal International, a professional organisation of tourism leaders that promote global tourism, with the aim to unite all branches of the travel and tourism industry in the world.
Blacky Komani, TBCSA chairman, said that he is proud of Tshivhengwa’s outstanding achievement. "Having engaged and worked with Tshivhengwa over the past few years, I am proud to say that this award is well-deserved. He has exemplified sheer dedication to spearheading TBCSA’s organisational strategy and guiding the tourism industry, especially during this difficult time. May he continue to serve the tourism sector and help rebuild what has been lost due to Covid-19," says Komani.
