New software research and development centre from Career Planet

The career and work opportunities NGO, Career Planet has partnered the Chief Information Officers Forum to help develop the ICT industries and aid socio-economic development in South Africa, with the aim of giving IT graduates real work experience.

Career Planet recently launched its web and mobi site, where youths are able to find answers to career-related questions, get access to learnerships, bursaries, internships and other job-related opportunities, as well as send free texting on all makes of WAP-enabled cellphones through their partnership with PepTXT.

"Career Planet seeks to address the unemployment issue in South Africa. It is not a recruitment agency, but rather a platform for unemployed youths, students and graduates, to connect with potential employers and opportunity providers to finds jobs and other opportunities. Membership is free and members can benefit from a wide range of free services designed to support work seekers," said founder and CEO Karin Fuchsloch. "Connecting with the CIO Forum has allowed Career Planet to host a software team and to collaborate on projects and software that will further enable us to reach communities and young people with life-changing opportunities."

"The aim is to get IT grads skilled for the world of work," said Bridgetti Lim Banda, programme manager of CIO Forum. "It's a three-year programme and we're excited to have already kicked off with five developers based out of the Career Planet Cape Town offices."
