The future of education: A leading topic at the Vision 2030 Summit
"The NDP calls on us to take measures to reduce income inequality and raise the income share of the bottom 40% earners. This requires all of us to discuss and reach an agreement on the kind of economic order we want and trade-offs and sacrifices we require to achieve it," said the Minister in the Presidency, Jeff Radebe, at the first Vision 2030 Summit; held in June this year.
SizweNtsalubaGobodo, NAFCOC, Tiger Brands, Medscheme Healthcare, IQ Business, Mega Water, Curro Holdings, Aurecon, SBV Services and MMI Holdings are some of the sponsors of the second annual Vision 2030 Summit happening in Johannesburg on 8 to 9 June 2016.
Companies involved want to be part of the implementation of the NDP and key role players, as understanding their contribution is imperative in achieving Vision 2030. After all, Vision 2030 is a South African plan not just a government plan.
"It is time for us to move the NDP from being a plan to implementation. There are clear deliverables in the NDP which can become more of a reality if the public and the private sector collaborate and work together to achieve them." Ryland Fisher, Editorial Director, Vision 2030 publication.
The aim of the summit, which was endorsed by the National Planning Commission, is to unpack the NDP and to look at ways that public and private sectors can play a practical role in realising its vision. It is in the best interest of all South Africans - irrespective of backgrounds - for the NDP to succeed.
This year, the summit attracted 260 delegates, 40 speakers and over 16 hours of solution-based interaction between the private and public sectors. Some of the speakers included the Minister in the Presidency Jeff Radebe; Tom Moyane, Commissioner at SARS; Khulekani Mathe, Acting Head of the Secretariat in the Presidency, National Planning Commission; Graeme Bloch, Independent Consultant; Blessing Manale, Executive Head and Mayoral Spokesperson for the City of Tshwane; and Tsietsi Mokhele, CEO of South African Maritime Safety Authority.
The first annual Vision 2030 publication will be available in early November. Themed "Our Future Our Plan" and fully endorsed by the National Planning Commission Secretariat in the Department of the Presidency, Top Media and Communications has produced the first Vision 2030 publication to examine, outline and unpack the NDP from both private and public sector perspectives.
