KwaZulu-Natal supports CANSA with Shavathons
Durban shopping centres contributed to the annual CANSA drive with Shavathons, raising R17 931 at four centres in and around the city on Saturday 3 March 2012. Members of the public were able to shave their hair, or have it sprayed with brightly coloured hairspray, for a donation of R50, with children under 12 years donating R25 to support cancer sufferers and their families.

The lion's share came from Hillcrest Corner in Hillcrest, which in its second year raised R14 156, almost reaching its R15 000 target and bettering last year's total by over R2000. In addition to the hundreds of shoppers, special thanks went to other contributors.
Ben Houghton, who, in support of a friend's mother who is suffering from cancer, raised donations of R1600 leading up to the event. He grew his hair in the months before the Shavathon and shaved it all off on the day, encouraging his whole family to participate. An Upper Highway social cycling group collected R400 in extra change, which was donated at the Shavathon. Lezaan Marais of Gelofte School in Pinetown sold ribbons and Shavathon reminders in the two days leading up to the Shavathon, raising R501, which was also donated to the cause.
Granada Square in Umhlanga Rocks raised R1550. Park Boulevard in Durban North raised R400 and The Home Centre in Durban raised R1825. These may not seem like large sums of money, but every bit counts and goes a long way in helping cancer sufferers who need it most.
