The bank will participate in the event from 9 to 12 September at Bredasdorp Park in the Western Cape, under the theme “Together We Grow”, and will host three lunchtime discussions focused on issues affecting farmers and the wider agricultural value chain.

“With the Western Cape recently experiencing severe climate-related challenges, including flooding, crop damage and infrastructure strain, the need for shared solutions has never been more urgent,” said Land Bank acting CEO Jabu Mphambo.

“Agriculture is facing pressures that no single organisation can solve alone. Growth, resilience and sustainability require farmers, financiers, agribusinesses, commodity organisations, government and industry partners to work together towards a common goal,” he said.

Farmer resilience in focus

The Western Cape's recent weather volatility has highlighted the vulnerability of farming communities and the need for coordinated support to help farmers manage risk and recover from disruptions.

“Climate change is reshaping the way we think about agricultural risk. When stakeholders collaborate, sharing data, expertise, market access and financial tools, farmers are better equipped to withstand shocks and recover more quickly,” Mphambo said.

Land Bank's development finance mandate positions it to work with commodity groups, agribusinesses, insurers and government to strengthen farming enterprises and support emerging, smallholder and commercial farmers with finance and other forms of support.

The bank says its initiatives include blended finance programmes, market access partnerships and risk mitigation solutions aimed at helping farmers navigate a more complex operating environment.

Three sessions to tackle sector challenges

Land Bank will host lunchtime conversations during Nampo Cape covering:

• Wednesday, 9 September, 1pm–2pm: Land Bank's role in growing South Africa
• Thursday, 10 September, 1pm–2pm: Unlocking the future: strategic leadership and farmer success
• Friday, 11 September, 12.30pm–1.30pm: Unlocking the value of assets and livestock

The sessions are intended to encourage discussion and collaboration across the agricultural value chain.

“Nampo Cape gives us a platform to listen, learn and collaborate. Our engagements are designed to spark meaningful conversations that lead to real partnerships and real impact,” Mphambo said.

Livestock sector remains a focus

Land Bank will also sponsor the Livestock Tent in partnership with Bredasdorp Park NPC.

Although there will be no livestock exhibitions at this year's event, the tent will provide a space for engagement with producers, breed societies and other agricultural stakeholders.

Land Bank says the tent will also support knowledge sharing, relationship building and engagement with industry partners and potential clients.

Mphambo said the bank's broader message at Nampo Cape would be that collaboration is essential to the sector's future.

“Our message at Nampo Cape is simple: South African agriculture grows stronger when we grow together. Collaboration is not a nice-to-have; it is the foundation of resilience, innovation and long-term success,” he said.
