Garmin, NAVTEQ join forces
Garmin Distribution Africa announced its alignment with NAVTEQ, a leading global provider of maps, traffic and location data, at a new product launch in Cape Town last week.
Walter Mech, Group Sales and Marketing Director, Garmin Distribution Africa.
New portable navigation devices in the 2xxx and 3xxx ranges come pre-loaded with NAVTEQ mapping, which provides the entire new range, with better in-car navigation experience allowing all series users a more stress-free navigation experience.
2xxx series
The new slim 2xxx series replaces the current 1xxx series, with added features such as trip planner and park position recall with an intuitive user interface and advanced routing capabilities like myTrends, which analyses your driving behaviour and predicts your regular journeys without needing to set a destination. Plus ecoRoute to help users improve their driving habits in relation to acceleration, braking and optimal speed.
Navigation is improved further with the 23xx and 24xx series through Lane Assist and Junction View (limited coverage in South Africa). With Lane Assist there is no more guessing which lane you need to be in to make an upcoming turn. Junction view displays generic road signs and junctions on your route along with arrows that indicate the proper lane for navigation, making unfamiliar intersections and exits easy to navigate
The 3xxx line and the top of the range 2xxx series includes such features as Premium Lifetime Traffic, valid for the lifetime of the GPS device or service provider, Automatic Speech allowing you to control the device with your voice, thus keeping both hands on the wheel and a flip screen, from landscape to portrait.
The range is available at selected retailers from April 2011.
