SAB: the best SA company to work for

Taking first place for the third consecutive year in 'The Best Companies to Work for in South Africa' is SAB Limited, with Standard Bank in second position and Flight Centre in third. Corporate Research Foundation (CRF), in association with Business Report, launched the 6th edition of annual at the Woodmead Country Club in Johannesburg this week.

The companies featured in this edition of the book come from all sectors of business and commerce and include global giants, locally listed companies and specialised niche-market suppliers.

In spite of their varying sizes, they all have at least one thing in common: the belief that people are a company's most important assets and that an investment in employees pays very significant dividends both in the short and long terms.

The majority of companies featured have embraced the changes required in the corporate environment. These include managing the requirements of black economic empowerment, embracing cultural diversity and proactively developing employees.

All companies were analysed according to both macro and micro business factors. Ratings were sent to independent auditors, Grant Thornton, who selected and verified the Top Ten.

The Best Companies to Work for in South Africa: 2006 is endorsed by the Afrikaanse Handelsintituut (AHI) and the Association of Personnel Service Organisations (APSO).

In addition to the full-length company profiles, the book once again includes profiles on training and development providers who are making meaningful contributions to the country's growth and sustainability, and recruitment companies who have successfully made the transition to strategic staffing partners.
