Motorists to pay 18 cents more for petrol

Consumers, many of whom are still battling with post-festive season debt, will as of Wednesday, 3 February 2010, have to pay 18 cents more per litre for petrol.

The Energy Department announced on Friday that the retail price of all grades of petrol will increase by 18 cents.

The price of Diesel 0.05 percent Sulphur wholesale will increase by 10 cents a litre, while Diesel 0.005 will also rise by 10 cents a litre. The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin will increase by 5 cents and the single maximum national retail price for illuminating paraffin will increase by 6 cents.

“During the period under review, the average international product prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin increased,” said the department.

It said that the average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate strengthened when compared to the previous period.

In Gauteng a litre of 95 ULP petrol will cost R8.04 and R7.81 in the coast.
