WSSD Grassroots radio station collaboration

In one of the largest community radio collaborations in Africa this year grassroots radio stations from Africa and around the world will be broadcasting 5 hours a day from the World Summit on Sustainable Development's (WSSD).

The project is part of the Radio Voix Sans Frontieres (VSF), or "Radio Voices Without Frontiers", initiative of the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (known by its French acronym AMARC). Thirty community radio broadcasters from Africa, North and Latin America and Europe will provide in-depth coverage on sustainable development issues in French, English, Portuguese and Spanish via satellite and the Internet to community radio listeners around the world.

The WSSD VSF project will broadcast for ten days, from August 26 to September 4. The daily radio feeds will be carried via a Sentech digital satellite audio channel, and will also be re-broadcast by 200 AMARC Africa stations using the WorldSpace digital satellite audio platform.

South Africa's contribution to the project will come from the SA National Community Radio Forum (NCRF). As a member of AMARC they will work closely with AMARC's Africa Regional Office in Johannesburg.
