Thomson's travels to take media house into new era

The new divisional head for Now Media's travel publishing division - which includes Southern African Tourism Update (SATU), Travel News Weekly, Business Travel Now, Travel News Now and Now Media Webcasting - is Natalia Thomson, previously managing editor for SATU. Thomson is one of two international candidates who won a bursary for editors, under the age of 30, to attend an international B2B conference in Chicago earlier this month.

Thomson is currently in her third year of an MSc in Publishing Studies with journalism through the Aberdeen Business School at the Robert Gordon University in the UK.

She has chosen to equip herself to learn more about the technologies that are shaping the next generation of development of development in online media, with the focus of her thesis being to establish how rich media can benefit B2B online media. She achieved distinctions in her previous two years of study.

Having started with the Now Media group as a journalist on travel trade publication SATU and the daily online news service, Travel News Now, in June 2003, Thomson was promoted to deputy editor in January 2004, after she completed her honours degree in Journalism and Media Studies from Wits University and again to managing editor of SATU and deputy divisional head of Now Media's travel publishing division in 2005.
