Audio commentators required for FIFA World Cup
The Swiss National Association of and for the Blind has appointed the Institute for the Advancement of Journalism (IAJ) community media department to source and co-ordinate the training of audio description soccer commentators for the World Cup. The commentary will be broadcast directly from FIFA's Media Tribune or similar facility through a FM-transmitter to fans.
In contrast to the traditional sports commentaries on TV and radio, audio description for blind and visually impaired persons differs:
Commentary is focused on the movements of the soccer ball
There is no interpretation or emotion bound to the game
Describer reads the game very fast and is able to comment on all details
Overall information is given before beginning of the game
The commentary is taken from the seat perspective of the customersFIFA requirements
Experience/Education
Professional background in sport broadcasting
Reporting of sports events (soccer)
Techniques of sport broadcasting (soccer)
Knowledge of national and international soccer background
Required skills, knowledge and characteristics
Founded, strong effective communicator in sport journalism (world soccer)
Reading the game fast and outputting a detailed commentary
Ability to learn to audio describe for blind and visually people
Motivated to go on audio describing after the World Cup on a club basis
Prepare for the upcoming match (knowing the players' names, numbers, position and their background and the teams)
Living in South Africa
English speaking

The IAJ is looking for 10 people per venue in Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Durban and 15 in Johannesburg and Pretoria. All applicants must live near the venue.
