Heritage's reporter wins Human Rights Award

The SGBV Award was organised by the Liberia Media Center (LMC) in collaboration with the UN Women and the Journalist for Human Right (JHR).

According to the panelists, Myers' entry for the competition was considered the best of all the entries submitted under the print category. Presenting the award to Myers, the secretary general of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL), Charles Coffee, lauded the Liberian journalist for lifting the name of profession in the country.

He said the Liberian journalist deserved the award because he highlighted in his reportage the plight of women and children who continue to suffer from rape and other gender based violence in post-conflict Liberia. Against this backdrop, he urged all Liberian journalists to continue the fight against human rights abuse in the country, adding that human rights are constitutional rights that must never be curtailed by the state or any individual for evil motive.

The PUL chief scribe encouraged the Heritage's reporter to consider his recognition as a motivation to win more awards.

Myers, who is also Heritage's legislative reporter, expressed happiness for winning the award. He vowed to work harder in the execution of his professional task. He then dedicated the award to his institution, boasting that the Heritage made him to win the award.
