Coming to 2010? Be my guest2010 is approaching and it presents a golden opportunity to market the country, its people and its services to tourists. But perhaps not everyone is quite as prepared as they might be… Johan Horak, writing in today's edition, has some pointers for guest house and B&B owners, whose important things in life revolve (quite properly) around ensuring issues such as the beds are made properly and the breakfast bacon is crisp. The Internet is not their field, but it is a very effective means to attract overseas guests to their establishments, and Horak has some online marketing tools that should help those in our hospitality industry do just that. On the mobile front, Eddie Groenewald reckons that more powerful mobile phones and greater use of technology present more opportunities for companies to interact with customers. Simone Puterman and Rod Baker PS In this week's Ornico Ad Showcase, we feature TV ads for Coca Cola, Debonairs, Toyota, Kalahari.net and Windhoek Lager, and radio ads for Maq, Motorola, MTN, Nando's and Halls. Please send all marketing and media news to marketingnews@bizcommunity.com and opinion pieces to contributors@bizcommunity.com. Screwing it in at MCQP OTHER [Lauren Cohen] Creative minds can finally start work on their outfits for the Mother City Queer Project because the theme for South Africa's biggest costume party has been revealed. Hot Water sign with European touring agent MUSIC Hot Water has recently returned from a very successful tour to Europe performing at the prestigious Hague Jazz Festival, alongside the likes of Freshlyground and Hugh Masekela - the two other SA representatives on the festival's line-up. Meet Simo at Synergy and enter our amazing raffle! MUSIC [Ruth Cooper] Keep tuned to Bizcommunity's BizLounge for updates on our newest contributor Simo. Simo will be officially introduced at Synergy Live this weekend and will be helping out with our amazing raffle in which all proceeds will be donated to the very worthy Nazareth House. South African Indie Volume 1 MUSIC [Ruth Cooper] What does it really mean to be indie or alternative these days? In a way, indie has become almost a dirty word, spurned by those painfully hip ones who usually can't seem to enjoy or appreciate anything from the mainstream. Indie originally meant independent of a major commercial record label and usually classified those lesser-known obscure bands, but when indie and alternative is the current in-thing and enjoyed by the majority, what can truly be considered the “alternative”? Disaster strikes in 2012! MOVIES [Zeenat Ebrahim] From the director of ‘Independence Day' and ‘Day After Tomorrow', Roland Emmerich, brings you 2012, the next apocalypse. Much controversy is circling the Mayan prophecy of 2012. Movies are being made about it and speculation is in the air that ‘the world as we know it is coming to an end'.
