The Carling Western Cape Ultimate Hero list has been narrowed down to five Western Cape men, selected as the perfect mate by those who appreciate them the most. These mates, together with their partners stand a chance to enter the festive season in style with an all-expense paid luxury weekend stay in the mother city.

Carling Black Label together with top local radio station, Heart 104.9FM, selected the finalists based on stories, which showed the lighter, but good side of men. “We are very happy with the response we received, it is great to see men being rewarded by their friends and families for the small or big things that they do which mean a lot to those closest to them,” says Nick Feinberg, sports producer at the station.

  • Phillip Bliss from Observatory who is a ‘pacifist' that decided to leave his jobs in weapons technology to pursue a job working for an NGO.
  • Lionel Nicholson from Mitchell's Plain is the best uncle of them all, giving the best advice to keep his nephews out of trouble, so much that they consider him more a mate that an uncle. Nicholson also sits on a street committee fighting crime in his area.
  • Sandile Zothwana from Thornton was nominated by his housemate, who is also his best friend, for helping him out when he was unemployed as he could always count on him to buy him a beer on the weekend.
  • Ivor Du Plessis from Diep River is a new father, nominated by his wife for being her supportive soul mate by helping with the 02h00 feeding.
  • Randall Isaacs from Ottery is always around to make the best curries for his mate. He is always up for a good time and a few beers.

“It is important to let our men know that they too can relax and enjoy some time out once in a while. We want that man who lives in the Western Cape but has never had the time and means to enjoy the Mother City to experience it like he has never imagined it,” says Pravesh Moodliar, project brand manager for Carling Black Label.

The public can vote via a SMS to choose the ultimate mate as well as visit www.1049fm.co.za to view profiles on the finalists from 20-27 November. The winner will be announced on Heart 104.9FM on 27 November 2009, on the Heart Afternoon Drive Show.
