Show profile Hide profileNico Rathbone was born and grew up on an Eastern Cape Karoo farm, went to school in the Karoo town of Steytlerville, where he matriculated in 1980, inter alia as headboy of the school and hostel. He was also a keen rugby player and athlete and chairman of the debating-society.
After school he completed his compulsory military service, where he inter alia exelled to acting company sergeant-major.
After compulsary military service he furthered his academical studies at the University of Stellenbosch, where he obtained the degree B.A.(Law) LL.B. in December 1988.
From January 1989 to December 1990 he completed his compulsary articles of clerkship with a leading Cape Town law firm and was admitted to practise as attorney of the High Court in January 1991.
In 1991 he started practising attorney for his own account, and was eventually allowed to practice as attorney with right of appearance in the High Court, and invited by the National Law Society to attend a judicial course with a view to assist on the bench.
He is still practising as attorney in the Overberg, Western Cape, South Africa and a member of the Cape Law Society.
