CommUnity concert in aid of Childline
The rainbow nation rocks! And to celebrate, Watershed is launching their new song called "Think About It" at a commUnity concert in association with eBlockwatch and Childline Gauteng, on Saturday, 29 September 2007, from 2–7pm at the Dimension Data Campus, Sloane Street, Bryanston.
eBlockwatch has designed a system ensuring that South Africans can stay free from crime, and it's as easy as hitting a button. Members of the public can register for the system by smsing the word watershed to 33930, and following the prompts. For just R10 per month they will receive a speed dial number to save to their phone.
Anyone in trouble can then just hit the button and their nominees and eBlockwatch volunteers will come to their assistance. Should anyone go missing, their cellphone can be traced immediately, giving family and friends an indication of where to start searching. Andre Snyman of eBlockwatch says they're determined to keep South Africans safe, anywhere, anytime.
Lynne Cawood, director of Childline Gauteng, applauds this community initiative that gives parents peace of mind through technology by enabling children to connect to loved ones if they are in trouble. In addition, Childline Gauteng will receive R1 for every registration, helping to extend their services to vulnerable children.
Lynne says, "Every month Childline receives thousands of calls and hears stories of violations to children. This initiative helps to prevent crime and ensures that our Rainbow Nation's children do not have to experience horrific happenings. The kindness and support of eBlockwatch volunteers goes a long way towards generating a caring community spirit and teaching us all the value of belonging to a really great nation.
South Africans of all ages are invited to rock with Watershed, Skwatta Kamp and Son of 1000 Blues at an event hosted by comedians David Newton and Loyiso Gola. Children's entertainment will be provided and refreshments are available. Take your blankets, camping chairs and picnic baskets and watch the sun go down while celebrating the South African commUnity.
Tickets cost R120 per person and are available from Computicket.
