Volume of goods transported in November down 1.5%

The volume of goods transported in November 2015 decreased 1.6% year on year, Statistics SA said on Monday.

The corresponding income decreased 3.9% over the same period, it said.

For the three months ended November 2015, income from freight transportation decreased 3.3% compared with same period the previous year.

The main contributors to this decrease included primary mining and quarrying products (-4.6% and contributing -1.5 percentage points); and 'other' freight (-9.1% and contributing -1.1 percentage points).

According to Stats SA, the number of passenger journeys in November 2015 decreased 8.4% y/y, with corresponding income increasing 0.3% over the same period.
