Al-Jazeera English begins broadcasting
The English TV sister news channel of Qatar's Arabic Al-Jazeera began broadcasting on Wednesday, 15 November 2006, reports the Mail & Guardian Online. Al-Jazeera English "hopes to reach a potential audience of 80 million viewers by cable and satellite, mostly in Asia, Africa and Europe" and "has recruited big name Western journalists, including BBC veteran Sir David Frost".
