Lessons of the past
In the build-up to Youth Day, 16 June 2006, ad agency Twist created a print ad for Joburg Tourism that is a reminder of the tragic events of 16 June 1976 and the lessons that should be learnt from it. The simple shot of a pen and paper represents the classroom, and the drops of blood the violence and bloodshed that resulted when thousands of pupils took to the streets in protest of the poor facilities, overcrowded classrooms and inadequately skilled teachers that characterised Bantu education in the apartheid era.
