SA celebrates the RWC 2007 victory
The words "Go Bokke!" echoed through the country as the 2007 Rugby World Cup drew to a breathtaking close on Saturday 20 October. Absolute pandemonium broke loose in every pub, bar, restaurant, home and every other gathering place as fans across South Africa erupted in pure elation as John Smit lifted the Webb Ellis Cup, declaring SA champions of the world.
Fans joined in on the action a little closer to home at a fan park hosted by Kagiso Exhibitions and Events, a wholly-owned subsidiary of JSE listed, Kagiso Media. The fan park boasted the latest technology, with a specially imported mega-television screen from Italy, providing the audience with an optimum view of the final between South Africa and England.
Former Springbok player Hennie le Roux, part of the victorious 1995 Rugby World Cup squad, together with Kagiso's own rugby personality, Roger Jardine, entertained the audience with insightful commentary ahead of the live broadcast. Spectators were entertained by PJ Powers who performed a rendition of the 1995 World Cup hit “World in Union”.
An ice sculpture named "Bokkie" was the star of the show in Cesco's on Beyers Naude.
Celebrations carried on way into the early hours of Sunday morning with South African and Springbok flags flying high from every other vehicle on the road. The game may be over but the memory still burns strong in every South African's green heart.
Viva leBokke!
