This year over 800 high-calibre entries were received, from which 22 finalists were selected across diverse industries such as exhibitions, engineering, the media, travel and security. Justin Hawes, MD of exhibition and events specialist, Scan Display, was delighted to be among the finalists.
Entrants had to demonstrate that their business had grown and developed through their efforts, is fiscally responsible, well marketed and has a sound strategy for the future.
At the breakfast award ceremony on Thursday, 6 September, the winner was announced with William Duk from The Plantation Shutter Company - one of Scan's clients - named 2012 Entrepreneur of the Year.
Justin's nomination for the EOY award was largely the result of his developing Scan Display from the small company he started in 1996 into the company it is today. Scan has expanded into five branches across Southern Africa, has a broad range of exhibition and event products and services, as well as a new retail division, and is now considered one of the leaders in the Southern African exhibition industry.
"I am very honoured to have been nominated for the EOY award, and to have advanced so far. This kind of recognition is encouraging and I would like to commend Sanlam and Business Partners on the initiative," added Justin.
