Falke adds to Ukusela eKapa ceramic campaign

The Ukusela eKapa ceramic campaign, a World Design Capital 2014 project, has received support from Falke, when its Cape Town-based facility added its support by imprinting mugs, while the Pretoria factory supplied the resistor cores for the project.

Meaning 'Drink Cape Town In', the campaign is the brainchild of ceramic artist Hennie Meyer and architect/artist Janine de Waal and will be rolled out to schools, tertiary education facilities, hospitals, government offices, businesses, sport events and many more public events over the next couple of months. The campaign is aimed at encouraging visitors and locals to explore the essence of the Mother City.

Participants in the project have the opportunity to put the squeeze on soft, unbaked pottery clay to add their hand impressions on a cup or mug, also known as an 'ikomityi'. Participants will be able to add their details at the bottom of the mug and will receive a branded key ring.

As part of the World Design Capital promotion, mass installations will be done across the Cape Peninsula to celebrate the global recognition and acknowledgement of the design spirit inherent to this beautiful city on the tip of the African continent. Hand print contributors will be able to visit these installations and exchange their key rings for a random mug, made by a fellow Capetonian or a visitor to the city.

"Our German founding company can trace its roots back to 1895 and became an internationally recognised brand for its uncompromising commitment to product quality and performance. In South Africa, we are proud champions of this legacy and have strived to maintain this reputation. The World Design Capital designation is an incredible celebration of the intrinsic artistic integrity of the Rainbow Nation and we are extremely proud of being associated with this drive," says Falke CEO, Brennan Sharp.
