"We are committed to developing young filmmakers, including those previously disadvantaged students for whom we obtain full bursaries and to contribute towards the skills development in South Africa. Both the expansion to Cape Town and our discounted paying courses mark a step in the right direction for us and for South Africa's aspirant filmmakers," says Big Fish CEO, Dr Melanie Chait.
Big Fish has won several awards over the years, including a Golden Panda award in China for Best Documentary Cinematography for 'Soul Train' and this year won Best Short Documentary prize at the prestigious Oberhausen Film Festival for 'Atrophy'. BigFish also opened the 'Africa in the Picture' Festival in Amsterdam in September this year.
The film school has achieved an 85% employment rate for former students, while the remaining 15% work on their own productions or through Little Pond Production Trust, a production company established by Big Fish for former students.
