City Lodge Hotel Group donates R441,000 to worthy causes on behalf of guests
The Cancer Association of South Africa, the Hospice Palliative Care Association of South Africa and Food & Trees for Africa received a combined boost of R441,000 for their coffers from the City Lodge Hotel Group at an annual handover event on Friday, 17 November.
As part of the ongoing Cuppa for CANSA campaign, the group donated R210,000 to the Cancer Association on behalf of tea and coffee drinkers at 22 Road Lodge hotels around the country for the 2017 financial year.
For every cup of tea or coffee bought by Road Lodge guests, 50% of the proceeds are donated to the campaign, adding up to a sizeable total at the end of the financial year. Since 2003, Road Lodges have generated an impressive R1.98 million for the Cancer Association through tea and coffee sales.
Guests who make their bookings online at hotels in the City Lodge Hotel Group can choose for their booking to benefit either Hospice or Food & Trees for Africa. The group accumulates donations on their behalf.
For the year to 30 June 2017, the group donated R140,000 to Hospice on behalf of guests and R91,000 to Food & Trees for Africa. Since 2012, a total of R834,285 has been donated to Hospice and R508,540 to Food & Trees for Africa.
These donations form part of the City Lodge Hotel Group’s wide-ranging corporate social responsibility initiative aimed at making a difference for individuals and communities in need of assistance.
