Call to ban phones when driving
IOL says that using a hands-free kit while driving is just as risky as using a hand-held mobile phone. The report is based on a study undertaken in the United States that proves when people are listening to a conversation, they are no longer concentrating on driving.
The findings were so conclusive that the National Transportation Safety Board has gone ahead with its recommendation to all states that the use of mobile phones - whether hands-free or not - should be outlawed for all drivers, states IOL.
Reaction from the public has been widespread, with many welcoming the recommended ban and others condemning it.
