As South Africans celebrate the country's heritage this September, Bos Tea is marking the month with a new packaging design that pays tribute to where its story begins.

The refreshed Bos Tea box is designed to hero the brand's proudly South African identity while highlighting its connection to the Cederberg — the only place in the world where Rooibos is grown.
The redesign follows recognition for the brand's packaging at the Food & Home Awards, where Bos Tea received Gold.
“At Bos, unapologetically South African heritage runs through our brand DNA. This new tea design is a bold, distinctive nod to that heritage and a call for all of us to keep celebrating where we come from,” says Maura van Styrum, head of marketing at Bos.
A new look, the same Rooibos
While the box may look different on shelf, Bos says the tea inside remains unchanged.
Each box contains single-origin, hand-harvested organic Rooibos, packaged in plant-based tea bags. The refresh is therefore focused on strengthening the visual identity of the product rather than changing the flavour or formulation consumers know.

For the brand, the packaging also provides an opportunity to communicate the provenance of Rooibos more prominently.
The Cederberg remains central to that story. Rooibos is indigenous to the region, making its geographical origins an important differentiator for brands operating in the category.
By putting those roots at the forefront of the redesign, Bos is linking its packaging more closely to the place, product and heritage behind the tea.
Protecting the land behind the brand
The new packaging arrives alongside Bos Tea's continued focus on responsible sourcing and sustainable production.
Bos Rooibos is Rainforest Alliance certified, recognising farming practices aimed at promoting biodiversity, protecting ecosystems and supporting fair and safe working conditions.

The Rooibos is also organic and produced without pesticides or herbicides.
A further part of the brand's sustainability story comes from Klipopmekaar Rooibos Farm, where Bos sources Rooibos.
Following more than a decade of regenerative farming practices, the farm has achieved climate-positive status. According to Bos, the farm now stores more carbon in the soil than it emits through its operations, supporting the long-term sustainable production of Rooibos.
The farm is currently the only one in the world with this status, according to the brand.
Packaging as a statement of heritage
For FMCG brands, packaging increasingly has to do more than protect a product and communicate basic information. It has become an important part of brand storytelling and differentiation at shelf.
For Bos, the refreshed design brings together several elements of its positioning: South African heritage, the origins of Rooibos, organic production and sustainability.
The timing during Heritage Month further reinforces that message.
The redesign is intended as a visible reminder that Rooibos is not simply another tea variety, but a product with a uniquely South African origin and connection to the Cederberg landscape.
Rolling out in the Western Cape
The new Bos Tea packaging will be available in Checkers Western Cape and Spar Western Cape stores from this month.
Consumers will also be able to purchase the refreshed range through the Bos Tea online store.
As the brand updates its shelf presence, the focus remains on a familiar proposition: a distinctly South African product, sourced from the place where Rooibos began, now presented in packaging designed to tell that story more boldly.
