After almost 25 days at seas the two teams were greeted to cheers and excitement at the V&A Waterfront. SAMSA's Ntabiseng Tema handed over prizes to the second place team Dongfeng Race team who were thrilled to be on land, and simply wanted to take time during the stop over for the next two weeks before heading off to Abu Dhabi on 19 November. The race started from Alicante in Spain.

Tema told a crowd of excited supporters that SAMSA was pleased to be associated with the VOR as a sponsor and looked forward to building strong relations with the VOR and other stakeholders to enhance maritime tourism and leisure. SAMSA envisages the stopover will bring economic local development, build the potential of further international tourism and pave the way for Cape Town and South Africa for future international partnerships.

Councillor Roxanne Hoorn, City of Cape Town's Portfolio Chairperson (Tourism, Events and Marketing) welcomed the VOR stopover as "adding value to our local economy". "We envision to continue to play such a pivotal role in the event and continue to build partnership with various stakeholders such as SAMSA and the role it plays in developing and promoting maritime interests."
