Online German portal for SA
Kap Express, based in Cape Town, is reportedly the first independent online news platform in German language in South Africa and it will be published as a weekly newspaper in the near future. It provides insights into local and international news, which are of interest to its German-speaking readership that either live in SA or are interested in the current affairs of the country.
The cross-media concept, which was developed by a team of German journalists and marketing experts led by Joerg-Henning Meyer, aims at closing a gap in the South African media landscape.
Meyer who has travelled Africa and Asia various times during his work as a journalist in Hanover and Vienna has been living in South Africa since the end of 2008. After a comprehensive analysis of the South African media landscape, he developed the concept for the first German-speaking weekly newspaper in South Africa, which will be the flagship of the ambitious media project.
It welcomes contributions from authors that relate to South Africa, whether as news or in-depth articles and commentaries. According to Meyer, business, politics, culture and regional news from the South African provinces will form the key sections of the news platform. In addition, it will enforce a dialogue with its readers through the consistent use of electronic media and popular social networking platforms. The team expects a high amount of impressions during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
