Capricorn FM launches in Limpopo

The people of Limpopo today, Monday, 26 November 2007, woke up to the fresh sounds of the region's first black commercial radio station. Six months after receiving its commercial broadcast license, Capricorn FM began broadcasting from its state-of-the-art studios in Bendor, Polokwane.

“Capricorn FM Talk” with Thabiso Kotane (Mon – Thur, 6pm – 7pm)
“Ashifa Breakfast” with Ashifashabba (Mon – Fri , 6am – 9am)
“The Immaculate Drive” with Skhumbuzo Mbatha (Mon – Fri, 3pm – 6pm)
Proudly Limpopo and proudly South African, the station will broadcast 70% in English and 30% vernacular, incorporating the three dominant ethnic groups in the province (tshiVenda, sePedi, xiTsonga). Capricorn FM will broadcast 24 hours throughout Limpopo with five transmitters that will cover these main towns and areas surrounding them:

Capricorn FM's CEO Simphiwe Mdlalose has led the team responsible for bringing the radio station to air. Representing MSG Afrika Media, he and business partner and former radio talk-show host, Given Mkhari, were part of a consortium that successfully competed against a number of contenders for the license to broadcast in Limpopo.

Contribute to province's development

According to Mdlalose, the launch brings to life the consortium's vision to contribute to the development of the province. “Limpopo is a fast-growing region with great potential. Capricorn FM aims to inspire listeners by reflecting Limpopo as a progressive, distinctive and diverse province,” he says.

Commenting on the station's lineup, Mdlalose says that Capricorn FM has attracted the best of the best in the industry. “We have been able to attract personalities that have been on radio for a number of years with a mix of new and fresh talent that we are proud to be introducing to the commercial radio world,” he says.

As a commercial radio station, the broadcasting format carries 70% music and 30% talk shows. The music will feature a variety of urban genres in R&B, soul, afro-pop, afro-soul, hip-hop, kwaito, house and also cater for jazz and gospel lovers and what Capricorn FM describes as urban jazz and urban gospel.

Something for a change-
At this moment in limpopo, one can have time out of cd's.there is no need for cd's or flash disk,as capricon FM is the answer (presenter must not feel some how to use there own languages).Tshivenda,Tsonga and Sepedi rocks in limpopo.Get help from univen FM on how to get this languages work together.

Skhumbuzo is an awesome broadcaster-
I have always prayed for the day when Skhumbuzo Mbatha would be doing his stuff on a commerecial radio station, finally it happened and i hear he is really up to the task. Unfortunately i would not be able to listen to him as am in Gauteng and Capricorn Fm is only in Limpopo. I say - show them what you are made of bro.

No more Eddi Zondi for me-
Guys...I'm one of those who has always complained about Metro FM's Eddi Zondi & his broken english but loved his music...but guess what? There's a guy on Capricorn FM...I believe his name is Clayson and the show is called TC on Sunday...Iyo! The Show rocks...good presentation and music to die for. I hope he's not married. You rock my man!

TC on Sunday rocks-
Martin...I agree. I studied at Turfloop University. TC was on Turf FM...even then he rocked. I was home over the weekend and managed to listen to the first hour of his show driving back to Jozi...that's what radio should sound like. Keep it up TC. Capricorn FM show be available on DSTV for us Jo'burgers.

Matome, you don't make sense bro!!-
I read twice your comment and think there is nothing that gives credence to your assertions. You sound more like a player hater than anything else, either that or you are just plain stupid. Ike Ngobeni is a good executer of his radio show brief and so i believe is Skhumbuzo and the rest of the Capricorn Fm jocks. Good luck in future comments.

Matome is right-
I completely agree with Matome. Atleast somebody has the balls to tell it like it is. The Capricorn FM weekday line-up sucks. Only the breakfast & talk show are worth listening to. The Saturday and Sunday line-ups are great. But the Love Zone thing on Sunday with Jos is lousy. Its a very confused show in many ways. Matome does not have to love or hate Skhumbuzo...the fact is that the Immaculate drive is a big yawn!

Its true...!!-
Capricorn FM can do with a revamped line-up. The lunch time (the switch) and afternoon drive shows in particular are the worst of the lot. Why is that Ngobeni Ike guy speaking like that? that is so 1995. And Skhumbuzo? what do you guys call that? you would think you're listening to Radio Bantu in english. Can't you guys find better DJ's to do those shows? Otherwise you will lose a lot of listerners and potential ones.

facts remain facts-
Skhumbuzo Mbatha that! And why are you combing three people into one. My name is Peter and I agree with Matome and Suzan. Name calling is a sign of weakness. People who can't debate and deal with issues resort to name calling. The Immaculate drive that!
