Unveiling of official 2010 mascot next week

The official mascot of the 2010 FIFA World Cup will make its first public appearance next week Monday, 22 September 2008, and FIFA and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) are inviting media representatives to be the first to get an exclusive look at the mascot at a pre-launch press conference.

The official launch will take place at 9pm during the Coca-Cola Soccer Zone programme on SABC1, at the SABC Headquarters in Johannesburg.

The pre-launch press conference will take place at 5pm for 5.30pm on Monday 22 September with SALOC chairman Dr Danny Jordaan, FIFA director of marketing Thierry Weil and South African football icon Lucas Radebe at the SABC Renaissance Studio at the Television Building - corner Henley and Artillery roads, Auckland Park, Johannesburg.

Media working facilities, including free Internet connection, will be provided.

Media representatives wishing to attend must RSVP to (please request a form) by Friday 19 September at the latest. Note that any pictures and stories on the official mascot will be embargoed until 10pm.

Journalists are also invited to a cocktail party preceding the TV launch at 7pm for 7.30pm.

The official mascot launch teaser clip, which has been running on SABC since 8 September, is also available at www.FIFA.com/Mascot where fans also have the chance to win a number of prizes.
