National and local businesses are helping to raise funds to support those affected by cancer through their ongoing support of the annual Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer presented by Isuzu Motors South Africa.

Isuzu has signed another three-year contract as presenting partner for the 28-year-old event.

“This is the ninth year in which we have proudly collaborated with Algoa FM on the Big Walk for Cancer, and it is also Isuzu’s fourth year as presenting partner,” says Nandi Matomela, department executive of corporate affairs at Isuzu Motors South Africa.

“This is a journey that has been built on shared purpose, community connection, and the belief that business has a big role to play in enabling society to move forward.”

Isuzu also sponsors entries for all its employees and their families – making it the biggest corporate at the annual event, which is held physically on the last Saturday of October in Nelson Mandela Bay, George, and Buffalo City, as well as virtually.

“As a business built on mobility, our purpose goes beyond moving people from place to place, it's about helping create a better life for our employees, families, customers, and the communities we serve,” says Matomela.

The 2026 beneficiaries are the Prostate Cancer Foundation of South Africa and the CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation in the Eastern Cape.

Another long-time sponsor is MTN, which is the communication partner.

“MTN is proud to continue supporting the Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer, an initiative that brings communities together behind an important cause while creating awareness and hope for those affected by cancer,” says Linda Ntsuka, regional marketing manager for MTN Eastern Cape.

“MTN believes in the power of collective action to make a meaningful difference and is honoured to be part of an event that inspires support, compassion, and positive impact across the region,” she adds.

aQuellé has been keeping walkers hydrated for a number of years.

“At aQuellé, people are at the heart of everything we do, which is why the Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer is an event that we are honoured to be a part of. We look forward to hydrating and refreshing all the walkers – young and old – at the finish,” says aQuellé’s Estelle Willemse.

Eastern Cape-based GBS Mutual Bank, has signed up as a support partner.

“GBS is proud to support the Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer, an initiative that brings the community together to raise awareness and support for people whose lives are affected by cancer,” says Jonty Fincham the managing director.

“The Bank has a proud history of supporting the communities in which we operate, and we’re glad to be able to give back in this way”, he added.

GBS joins Bayradiology as a support partner, with an emphasis on education.

“At Bayradiology, we understand the importance of early detection, and we strive daily to detect cancers as early as possible, recognising the difference this can make in the fight against cancer,” says Dr Sharon de Kock.

“By supporting the Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer, Bayradiology is helping to raise awareness, support people affected by cancer, and reinforce the message that no one should have to walk this journey alone,” Dr de Kock says.

Value Added Life is also supporting the Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer.

“Cancer touches almost every one of us in some way, whether personally, or through someone we love.

“At Value Added Life, we believe it is incredibly important to keep shining a light on the impact cancer has on individuals, families, and communities.

“The more awareness, education, and conversation we create around cancer, the better equipped we are to support one another, and collectively, keep working towards a future where fewer lives are affected by this disease. We are very proud to support the Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer and the important message it carries,” says Ryan Butcher, marketing director at Value Added Life.

“In addition to our sponsoring partners, businesses in the Eastern Cape and Garden Route go all out to help their teams to participate in the Big Walk, all of which make it possible to provide meaningful support to those affected by cancer in Algoa country,” says Algoa FM managing director Alfie Jay.
