And indeed South Africa did roar! Last week Tuesday night, 21 June 2011, Net#work BBDO became the first South African ad agency to have scooped three Cannes Lion Grands Prix in the space of just five years, when it won the Grand Prix Radio Lion for its 'Mercedes-Benz - Safety Features Love, Bud, Toby' radio campaign. Only two years ago, in 2009, the agency bagged its first - and SA's first-ever - Grand Prix Radio Lion for its 'Virgin Atlantic Airline Dancer, Dog and Ferret' campaign. But that's not all: SA topped the Radio Lions category, taking 10 out of a total of 50 Lions. What a fantastic achievement! To listen/view all of SA's winning work, go to our Radio, Film, Press, and Direct and Promo & Activations showcases. For more Cannes Lions news in association with Cinemark (SA's official Cannes Lions representative), including exclusive blog posts from some of the SA judges this year, go to our brand-spanking new Cannes Lions special section. Download the Biz Takeouts podcast of Kevin Fine's interview with Net#work BBDO's Rob Mclennan here. Congratulations must also go to the Dispatch Online team, the SABC's Melini Moses and e.tv's Lindile Mpanza for respectively winning the Digital Journalism, Radio General News and Television General News - Feature/Current Affairs awards at the 2011 CNN MultiChoice African Journalist of the Year Awards, held at Sandton Convention Centre on Saturday night, 25 June. This is the (now mostly disbanded) Dispatch Online's second win in a row. eNews's Mark Klusener also received a commendation. Go, Mzansi, go!
