Find your perfect job.

So was it "the biggest event of the year"?

The Loeries is basically all over now, bar all the analysis of the winners (and losers), congratulations, back-patting, travelling exhibition, printed annual, jealous sniping and cries of scam ads (if we don't get any of that on Bizcommunity.com, I'll fall off my chair in astonishment). So, for all the winners, go here. For the results of the new ranking system, go here. For opinion, read Herman Manson's column on the waning influence of advertising awards (plus take our poll) and read Loeries judge Jarred Cinman's views and insights on the Digital Loeries winners.

But how were the awards ceremonies themselves? I wasn't able to go this year, but I was still glued to Twitter on my cellphone trying to keep up with the tweets. Judging by those tweets, there was lots of good partying and drinking (and jokes that there were no drugs left in Johannesburg for H20) but there's a strong sentiment that, both nights, the shows were over-long and mostly boring (although everyone loved Helen Zille). Still, the Loeries is an opportunity for members of the creative industry to connect with each other, and that networking is always a valuable thing.

Congrats to all the winners!

With the release of the printed Loeries annual, additional rankings will be published, including top 10 tables for all the individual credits, eg ECD, illustrator, writer and director, as well as post production/VFX, etc. Read more >>

The waning influence of ad award shows
[Herman Manson: @marklives] The statues are stacked in neat rows along office walls. It's come to define our industry. Kids are told they need to win 'em to impress the creative director and secure that job. Creative directors are told they needs to win 'em to impress the MD and prove their relevance in a competitive industry. MDs care because they are told the talent cares, and with a bit of spin and a celebratory lunch, the client might be induced to care, too. [poll] Read more >>

It's not law, it's business

Shrewd marketing or brand mugging?
[Chris Moerdyk: @chrismoerdyk] Has the Mugg & Bean brand been mugged or is there something I am missing in this makeover? Tourism Month: 'lesser known' provinces cry foul over marketing budgets
[Issa Sikiti da Silva] South Africa's 'lesser known' provinces are facing the tough challenge of marketing themselves efficiently as attractive tourist destinations because of inadequate marketing budgets, while the well-funded big three - Gauteng, Kwazulu-Natal and Western Cape - are basking in financial and touristic glory.
