The volcano known as... That volcano in Iceland or the Icelandic volcano - how many TV and radio news readers can actually pronounce “Eyjafjallajökull”, let alone spell it? - is surely showing all of us just how interconnected and interdependent the world truly is. The air flight restrictions are impacting upon the Biz community in various ways, from hampering D&AD judging in London to attendance of the 2010 Festival of Media in Valencia, Spain, and the London Book Fair, and there are whispers that the volcanic ash cloud from the eruption over Europe could impact on the 2010 FIFA World Cup in June, too... Let us hope not!Talking about the world cup, just how are those ticket sales progressing? And just why did it take so long for FIFA to go the over-the-counter route? It also had its first developers conference, Chirp, at which various announcements were made, including that the US Library of Congress would be archiving ALL tweets and that advertising (Promoted Tweets) has finally arrived. Don't forget to enter our A Million Miles from Normal competition, which closes 30 April 2010. Together with Penguin Books, we're giving away five copies of this debut novel from copywriter Paige Nick - make sure you've read the five exclusive excerpts up on Bizcommunity! Truth is stranger than fiction Simone Puterman (@SimoneBiz) & Rod Baker PS In this week's Ornico Ad Showcase, we feature TV ads for Old Mutual, DStv, Inecto, Pepsi and BMX X1, and radio ads for Cadiz, Sadie, MTN 2, Nando's and Nissan Navara. Please send all marketing and media news to marketingnews@bizcommunity.com and opinion pieces to contributors@bizcommunity.com. 16th Annual MTN South African Music Awards Winners MUSIC The 16th Annual MTN South African Music Awards took place in Sun City on 16 and 17 April, 2010. Find out who all the winners were for both the Friday and Saturday Awards. STOMPing the Artscape THEATRE [Ruth Cooper] Never has sweeping, mopping and cleaning dishes looked so much fun to me. If I had the skills of the STOMP crew, and a whole group of skilled buddies to clean with, I think I would have the cleanest flat ever. Using everyday items such as brooms, kitchen sinks and plastic bags, the cast of STOMP creates wonderful musical and theatrical dance numbers that are so complex, rhythmic and catchy that one can't quite believe that ordinary objects like sweeping brooms or rustling newspapers are creating them. The Bolshoi of the circus world comes to town THEATRE [Debbie Hathway] Circus royalty comes to Cape Town when The Great Moscow Circus opens at GrandWest on Friday. It stars the official Moscow-based Rosgoscirk (Russian State Circus Company), the biggest circus company in the world with national status as high as the Bolshoi Ballet - its performers have to be as highly trained! Its general director is People's Artist of Russia, Alexander Kalmykov. The err of errs MOVIES [Zeenat Ebrahim] I thought Valentine's Day was over, but it seems that in April, fools rush in. The Accidental Husband is another cliché with a difference that tries to steer away from the conventional except there isn't any way around a typical romantic comedy no matter how you disguise it.

So in reality it doesn't matter how wonderful your new product or service is. The real question is - will they buy it?" - Noel Peebles More...  Submit a Quote Print - Print any item in this newsletter. Sponsors:Email - Email any item in this newsletter.
