I make things beautiful
All her life Gugulethu has loved two things; art and fashion. An appreciation for beauty in objects, people and life proved early in her life with childhood memories that include sketching and painting. "I didn't know they were portraits, they were just "drawings".
So, design wasn't a career choice, it was a life choice.
Gugu holds a Diploma in Visual Media with specialisation in Graphic Design, Web Design and Photography. She also completed work in Advertising, Creativity, Marketing, Communications, Project Management, Art, Art Literature, Computer Skills, Print and Repro, DTP and Power Learning as part of her training at Media House Boston.
Since leaving school three years ago she has armed herself with knowledge and skill for her passion, she has worked at DDB in various projects such as Brutal Fruit, Unilever, Honda, MTN, McDonalds and Bank ABC. Gugu also worked with Kaya FM, the launch of Phat Joe Radio, which laid the foundation for what, is now Loyiso Gola's comedy mobi site. She also spent a year at Liquid Design working primarily on packaging design, web design and photography. She has worked on various national and niche brands including KFC, D&G, Seiko watches, Soviet, Marvel, Mattel, Just Fun Toys, Just Time, Prima Toys and Happy Hands. One of her career highlights was conceptualising and designing the visual language and layout of Health Magazine, which is still currently being used.
Gugu joined TCF as a Junior Art Director in October 2011, and in her time here worked on the exciting and challenging United National COP17, as well as various projects for Limpopo Music Festival, Anglo America Castle Milk Stout, Growing Sports foundation, ZICO Investment Holdings, ACSA, Capricorn FM, IBM and MTN.
