Show profile Hide profileAfter obtaining his Business Science degree from the University of Cape Town with two honours, Advocate Quentin Donaldson went on to complete his LLB in two years at the same university. He proceeded to register his articles of clerkship with the eminent William Booth, Chairman of the Criminal Law Society.
Working directly under Mr. Booth, Adv. Donaldson gained invaluable experience in criminal procedure and the law of evidence; maintaining the firm's exceptional standards and achieving a 100% success rate for all assigned matters. Knowing what it took to win and how to achieve that outcome was something that distinguished the practice and placed Adv. Donaldson ahead of his more experienced colleagues.
After noting the advantages of self-employment, Adv. Donaldson went on to open his own law firm, named "Quentin Donaldson Attorneys" which specialised in criminal law litigation. Continuing with his success rate, the new firm quickly became renowned however the inherent moral dilemma of the nature of the work caused increasing discomfort.
Looking to expand his horizons, Adv. Donaldson took up a corporate management position with the Invictus Group, a national Human Resources and Litigation consultancy. Here Adv. Donaldson was tasked not only with the management of the firm's attorneys and litigation consultants but further obtaining relief for the company's clients in the CCMA, bargaining councils, Labour Court and Labour Appeal Court. His achievements in these forums were quickly recognised and it was not long before Invictus' consultants were requesting his advice on their more technical dismissals.
During his tenure with the Invictus Group, Adv. Donaldson advised the largest labour broker in the country at an executive level and was responsible for redrafting many of the same company's procedural guidelines and off-boarding documentation. He has successfully defended both a CEO and CFO of a publically listed company against contempt charges and prevented legislative infringements on numerous businesses. Most recently, during 2014 - 2015 Adv. Donaldson successful assisted a listed company with a hugely profitable restructuring that eliminated their unproductive unionised staff component.
A comprehensive understanding of labour law is something that proves highly profitable for companies but which is extremely hard to come by. Seeing the difficulties created by traditional labour consultancy models, Adv. Donaldson created The Labour Counsel, a purely professional organisation, allowing companies to achieve the results they want, the first time.
