I can offer some 17 years of Marketing, Sales and Logistical experience in publishing - in both SA and the UK.
I spent 14 years in the advertising industry in Cape Town working for leading agencies such as FCB and Lintas before moving into publishing as Marketing Manager for Times Media's (TML) coastal division based in Port Elizabeth. On taking early retirement from TML in 2002 I established KSa Media, an independent media consultancy providing a media planning and buying service to local advertising agencies and businesses.
In 2004 I moved to the UK for family reasons where I worked variously for The Plain English Group (Advertising Sales Manager and Logistics Manager), Oyster Pond Media - a US based on line media buying company - as Business Manager, and InPublishing Magazine (Advertising Sales Manager).
I returned to South Africa in 2010 and until August 2012 represented INK Publishing (a London based publisher of in flight magazines) as Advertising Coordinator.
I'm now available on a contract basis.
I returned to South Africa at the end of 2010 and am currently the Advertising Sales Coordinator for INK Publishing - a London based publisher specialising in in-flight magazines.
An insightful article, Neil. This may sound old hat (in more ways than one!) but David Ogilvy was, in my opinion an example of the type of thinker you're talking about.Wikipedia describes him as David Ogilvy (Businessman). And we all know he didn't suck creatively.
