Flip Loots and Jannie Pelser of Radio Pulpit awarded ATKV prizes

Dr Flip Loots, Senior Manager: Radio at Radio Pulpit has again received a prestigious award this year. This time the "Afrikaanse Taal en Kultuur Vereniging" (ATKV) presented him with the Radio award for the best programme: music, variety and drama for his drama "The Word became pain." that was broadcasted on Good Friday last year on Radio Sonder Grense.

Previous awards presented to Dr Loots include: The "Kerkbode" prize for producing the best Christian radio programme (five times); the ATKV-Veertjie prize for being the best radio presenter in Afrikaans in South Africa; and several overseas awards for various radio programmes.

This award winning drama "The Word became pain" describes the events surrounding the crucifixion. It focuses on the perspective of the centurion, a Roman officer, who after the crucifixion said, "Surely this man was the Son of God!" (Mark 15:39).

Dr Loots was not only writer and editor, but together with Hennie van der Merwe, impersonated all the characters in the drama. Marlene Badenhorst was responsible for reading the text, while Dr Loots' wife, Karin, selected the music to create the intense atmosphere.

Readers who missed out on the drama last year, can listen to it on Good Friday, 9 April at 07:00 to 08:00 on Radio Pulpit (FM 97.2 - 100.2 mHz and on AM 657 kHz).

Jannie Pelser, a free-lance presenter at Radio Pulpit has received the much sought after "Afrikaanse Taal- en Kultuurvereniging" (ATKV)-Radio award for his programme Brandpunt in the category for the best programme: news, actuality and documentary.

Brandpunt is broadcast every Friday at 06:30 on FM 97.2 - 100.2 mHz and on AM 657 kHz and deals with contentious topics which are current. Various views of theologians and other authoritative speakers are invited to air their respective opinions and expertise. The opinions shared on this programme are not necessarily the opinions of Radio Pulpit, but serves as a means to enable listeners to form their own opinions with regard to the subjects that are discussed on the programme.

Topics, which have already been covered in Brandpunt, include:

  • How do you hear God's voice?
  • Is fasting still relevant today?
  • Homosexuality, are gays going to hell?
  • Is there a Biblical foundation for divorce?
  • Should Christians be allowed to play characters that swear and display nudity?
  • Amnesty - can the release of 55 000 prisoners be justified?

Jannie Pelser is excited and grateful about the award. "We have come a long way with Brandpunt. I am satisfied with the current format and nature of the programme and gives all the glory and honour to God," says Jannie.

This coming Friday, 19 March at 06:30 Brandpunt will discuss the controversial film The Passion of the Christ. Listeners are invited to take part in the discussion and to sms their opinion through to Radio Pulpit, the number is 34223.
